Clash of the Titans

I just got done watching “Clash of the Titans”. It was a great show that was full of fighting and all kinds of action. This is the story of the demi-god Perseus and how he was to defeat the Kraken. As the story goes Hades is trying to overthrow Zues and take over the world for himself. The humans have started to disobey the gods and try to put themselves in control. Hades convinces Zeus to let him release the Kraken on the humans to regain control over them.
The demi-god Perseus is the only one that is capable of defeating this beast. However Perseus hates the gods for what they did to the family that raised him. Even though he is half god and half man, he cannot stand his real father Zeus or any of the gods. Throughout his journey he keeps denying that he is part god and will not accept Zeus’s help with his quest. He tries to do everything on his own but eventually realizes that he has to embrace the god side of him. He uses the tools Zeus gave him like a special sword and a Pegasus. In the end Perseus defeats the Kraken and saves the humans.
I think we can take away a good lesson from this movie. And that is that we should embrace other’s help and not try to do everything on our own. Without the help of friends or mentors we can hardly accomplish anything. But if we do come together and use each others strengths we can overcome anything.

How to Train Your Dragon

Recently I watched to show “How to Train Your Dragon”. It was a good show that within contained many lessons and morals we could learn from.
The story was about a young Viking named Hiccup. He was never as big as the other Vikings and no matter how hard he tried he could never kill the dragons that repeatedly attacked his village. Everyone thought he was useless and pathetic. One day he found a dragon and helped it with its broke tail and eventually became friends with it. Because of this he rode on the dragon and helped destroy the dragon’s evil leader.
We can take away a lot from this movie. Many times today we underestimate people or judge them just by their appearance. We don’t take the time to get to know some one before we automatically put a label on them. It might be the smallest of us that one day go on to do great things and make the biggest impact on this world. We can also learn from this movie that maybe some things that we see as bad could be used for a good cause. Like the dragons in the movie were always seen as bad, but then young Hiccup used them for good. We could do this with many things we encounter today. We need to open our eyes a little wider and maybe get a different outlook on things and even life. If we try these things I believe we could make this place a little better.

The Blind Side

The movie “The Blind Side” is a very inspirational story. It is about the life of Michael Oher and how he got to be the NFL player he is today. It is truly inspiring to sit back and watch how someone with so little can become such a great leader.
The movie starts of by showing Michael Oher when he was in high school and basically homeless. He would stay where he could at night and do everything he could just to keep him self alive. He had nothing until he met his new family. After he got used to his new home he began to fit in and become involved in other things. Football was the one thing he excelled in. He played so well in high school that just about every college wanted him to play for their team. He eventually signed with Old Miss and then went on to the NFL and played with the Baltimore Ravens. This movie had such great morals and values but one lesson stood out to me the most. This was the fact that it never matters where u start or where you come from, you can always be successful no matter what. Even though Michael Oher started off in the dumps he slowly rose to the top. No one ever said it would be easy, but we all need to strive to be the best we can be and never give up on our dreams. We need to be inspired by the life of Michael Oher and never settle for a normal or average life.

Battlefield LA

A few weeks ago me and a couple of friends went to go see the new movie “Battlefield LA”. This movie was set in modern day and dealt with an alien invasion that was taking place all over the world. However, the movie focuses on one basic unit of marines that were stationed in LA at the time. They are sent on a mission to retrieve civilians that might be trapped in an abandoned police department. Along their mission many things happen and it seems nothing can go right for the marines. They do eventually find one of the aliens command centers and end up destroying it. Their accomplishment is relayed all over the world and soon everyone knows how to win against the aliens.
The movie was truly great and left me with real respect for everyone that serves in our military. Throughout the movie there was one recurring theme of never giving up. No matter what happened to the marines, or how many losses they had they always pulled themselves together and kept marching on. We need to learn to never give up and not accept defeat. The best things in life are going to be hard to obtain. If we just give up and never try hard for these things, then we will never have anything in life that is worth much. We are becoming lazy as a society and have become accustom to just giving up. We need to break this habit and fight for what we love and accomplish what no others have.

Dear Professor

In the song “Dear Professor” by The Deans List, many points are made that I agree with. The song starts off with a portion from the Song “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry. Afterwards the rapping begins by The Deans List. I believe this song is talking about how great his life is and how he loves what he is doing. However there is always the factor that at anytime your life could be taken. He is living life the way he wants right now and not thinking about consequences or what might happen next. Throughout the song he states that he doesn’t want to die young but he can not control the future so if he does he will be ok with it. I believe we need to take this and learn from it. So many people live their lives today in fear of dying or what will happen the next day. We need to know that we can not control the future or what might happen to us in our lifetime. Being afraid of dying will not change anything. So why waste time and worry about our lives ending. We need to live life to the fullest, so if we do end up dying we will have no regrets. No one knows what happens when we die but I basically know what will happen while I am alive. We should not be scared of death but just look at it as another great adventure to persevere through.

This song is called “Opposite of Adults” by Chiddy Bang. I really enjoy this song because of the tune and also the meaning of the lyrics. It really has a meaning within it that many people today should listen too and take what it is saying to heart.
Throughout the song Chiddy Bang talks about the past and how they used to be kids. I believe that they are trying to show that people need to realize that at one time in their life they were kids too and should not be so stuck up and adult like today.  It is a good thing to be mature, but at times we need to loosen up and act like a kid again. Society today forces us to grow up quick and we are supposed to take everything seriously and not have any fun. The laws and rules have become stricter over the years and are continuing to grow and limit the fun we can have. We all need to relax and have fun while we still can. I guess it’s kind of the whole Carpe Diem theme but we need to embrace that we won’t be young forever so let’s act stupid while we still can. I think many people can learn from this and realize that every now and then we should be kids again and reminisce about our younger days. Being a kid was the easiest and best days of our lives. With no worries and no responsibility it was a great time. We need to act like kids again and not be so tied up and stressed out.

The Roomate

A couple of weeks ago I went to see the movie “The Roommate” with some friends. I didn’t know what to expect of the movie but I was open minded about it. The story consist of two freshmen girls in college that are roommates together. The main character Rebecca becomes obsessed with her roommate Sara. Rebecca does outrages things to try and be like Sara like getting the same exact tattoo in the same place that Sara has, dying her hair the same color as Sara’s, and killing Sara’s ex-boyfriend who will not leave her alone.
Overall I thought this movie was absolutely horrible. To me it seemed outrageous and way over the top. However it did prove some valuable points that are very real in these times today.
This movie made me realize that there are crazy people out there, and we never know if we could come into contact with them on a daily basis. Being a senior and about to go off to college this is a very real concern for me and my friends. We don’t know who we will be around and what kind of background those people might have came from. People today need to be careful about who they surround themselves with and know about those people. This movie really reinforced what your parents had told you all of your life about not being around or talking to strangers. Even though “The Roommate” was not that great of a movie it taught me a lesson and made me more aware of the dangers in our society today.

Kung Fu Panda - Great Messages

I saw Kung Fu Panda for the first time in a class of mine in which we had nothing better to do. I thought this would just be another dumb kid movie that had to do with a fat panda trying to do something athletic. However I was wrong and was taught many things through the movie.
This is an amazing movie that has many positive messages and a very interesting story line. There are many different lessons to be learned throughout the plot.  The main character Po, who is a panda that loves kung fu, was accidently chosen to be the dragon warrior who was prophesized to bring peace to their entire valley. About this time Tai Lung, the evil character, escapes from a prison and is out to fight Po and defeat the dragon warrior. Through Po’s training and experiences he goes through he finds that you should not strive to make yourself something your not, but to embrace yourself and be confident in who you are. After he learns that the true power and secret of Kung Fu just lies within you he fights Tai Lung and defeats him.
This is a great moral to the movie. In our time today so many people strive to be something they are not. We have the images of beauty and what being normal is drilled into our heads by the media of today. Kids are trying to be what they see in the magazines and forgetting about what they see in the mirror. Hopefully times will change and people in this world will start being themselves and embracing their own lives. Kung Fu Panda is truly a great movie and there is so much to be learned through it about finding ourselves.
