The Roomate

A couple of weeks ago I went to see the movie “The Roommate” with some friends. I didn’t know what to expect of the movie but I was open minded about it. The story consist of two freshmen girls in college that are roommates together. The main character Rebecca becomes obsessed with her roommate Sara. Rebecca does outrages things to try and be like Sara like getting the same exact tattoo in the same place that Sara has, dying her hair the same color as Sara’s, and killing Sara’s ex-boyfriend who will not leave her alone.
Overall I thought this movie was absolutely horrible. To me it seemed outrageous and way over the top. However it did prove some valuable points that are very real in these times today.
This movie made me realize that there are crazy people out there, and we never know if we could come into contact with them on a daily basis. Being a senior and about to go off to college this is a very real concern for me and my friends. We don’t know who we will be around and what kind of background those people might have came from. People today need to be careful about who they surround themselves with and know about those people. This movie really reinforced what your parents had told you all of your life about not being around or talking to strangers. Even though “The Roommate” was not that great of a movie it taught me a lesson and made me more aware of the dangers in our society today.

Kung Fu Panda - Great Messages

I saw Kung Fu Panda for the first time in a class of mine in which we had nothing better to do. I thought this would just be another dumb kid movie that had to do with a fat panda trying to do something athletic. However I was wrong and was taught many things through the movie.
This is an amazing movie that has many positive messages and a very interesting story line. There are many different lessons to be learned throughout the plot.  The main character Po, who is a panda that loves kung fu, was accidently chosen to be the dragon warrior who was prophesized to bring peace to their entire valley. About this time Tai Lung, the evil character, escapes from a prison and is out to fight Po and defeat the dragon warrior. Through Po’s training and experiences he goes through he finds that you should not strive to make yourself something your not, but to embrace yourself and be confident in who you are. After he learns that the true power and secret of Kung Fu just lies within you he fights Tai Lung and defeats him.
This is a great moral to the movie. In our time today so many people strive to be something they are not. We have the images of beauty and what being normal is drilled into our heads by the media of today. Kids are trying to be what they see in the magazines and forgetting about what they see in the mirror. Hopefully times will change and people in this world will start being themselves and embracing their own lives. Kung Fu Panda is truly a great movie and there is so much to be learned through it about finding ourselves.
